Plastics Europe, EuPC launch programme to control pellet loss / Scheme harmonised with Operation Clean Sweep

The association of plastics manufacturers in Europe, Plastics Europe (Brussels, Belgium; www.plasticseurope.org) and European Plastics Converters (EuPC, Brussels; www.plasticsconverters.eu) have announced the launch of a European certification scheme harmonised with Operation Clean Sweep (OCS; www.opcleansweep.eu).
Starting in February, the scheme aims to strengthen OCS by creating harmonised processes and procedures for controlling and documenting pellet loss across the plastics supply chain, the converters organisation said.
The scheme will allow OCS signatories, and other pellet-handling entities, to assess and quantify their implementation of the OCS pledge. The scheme will set common minimum requirements – based on the six pillars of the OCS pledge (see Plasteurope.com of 23.10.2020) – that will be audited regularly by accredited certification bodies. An EuPC representative told Plasteurope.com that the certification bodies “will be announced in about two weeks”.

Certified companies are to be listed on an online public register. The development of the verification is to be reported annually, including pellet-loss estimates and performance indicators, EuPC added.

It builds on the efforts of our national and sectoral association with the Operation Clean Sweep programme. It is also a change of paradigm as it will make companies in our sector direct their efforts at preventing pellets emission towards a common referential of requirements.”
