Personal care bottle made from rHDPE / CO2 emissions reduced by around 70%

With Canupak, packaging manufacturer Alpla (Hard, Austria; www.alpla.com) has introduced a lightweight packaging concept made of recycled HDPE, which weighs only 14 gm with a filling volume of 250 ml including the closure.
In developing the packaging for body care products, the focus was on making the product as climate optimised as possible, the company says.

The sample packaging is intended to explore the potential for further reduction of CO2 emissions. The carbon footprint, calculated in cooperation with ClimatePartner (Munich, Germany; www.climatepartner.com), is said to be 71% lower than that of comparable packaging made from fossil raw materials and is made up of emissions over the entire life cycle of the packaging, including disposal. The areas of filling material, trade and use phase were not taken into account.
