JV with Sasol starts in US / Ethylene and polyethylene production in Louisiana

Sasol (Johannesburg / South Africa; www.sasol.com) and LyondellBasell (LYB, Houston, Texas / USA; www.lyondellbasell.com) have announced the establishment of a US joint venture and the corresponding sale of 50% of a local production plant (see Plasteurope.com from 07.10.2020).
The sale concerns Sasol’s new US cracker and downstream polyethylene plants in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The South African company wants to use the proceeds from the business to repay debt, and the same goes for earnings from the sale of its joint venture stake in HDPE producer Gemini HDPE LLC to Ineos (see Plasteurope.com of 01.12.2020).
