Plastic packaging manufacturer offers carbon-neutral recycled PET
Alpla (Hard / Austria; www.alpla.com) is now offering customers carbon-neutral rPET through the purchase of additional certificates. For the production of rPET, the company switched its recycling plants in Wöllersdorf / Austria, and Radomsko / Poland to a mix of electricity from renewable sources.

“This step has already had a big impact on the carbon footprint of our food-grade regranulate,” said Georg Lässer, head of recycling at Alpla. “According to calculations, emissions have been cut by up to 90% compared to virgin material.” The remaining, unavoidable emissions, for instance those relating to the delivery of input material to the plants, are then offset with carbon certificates.
