With effect from 1 January 2019, Oerlemans Packaging (Genderen / The Netherlands; www.oerlemanspackaging.nl) has taken over Frisiapack (Heerenveen / The Netherlands; www.frisiapack.nl). The acquisition marks a continuation of the two companies' longstanding partnership, Oerlemans reports. Frisiapack, a manufacturer of stretch sleeve labels for plastic drums, canisters, buckets, bottles and other liquid containers, has been supplied with printed semi-finished products by the Oerlemans Plastics company unit for several years.

In the course of 2019, Frisiapack's activities will be transferred to Oerlemans Plastics in Giessen / The Netherlands. Film production, printing and sleeve production will then all be located under the same roof. Frisiapack employees who do not wish to switch to Oerlemans Plastics, which would involve a move from northern Netherlands to the southern part of the country, will be offered a position at the nearby Oerlemans unit Oosterwolde Plastic (Oosterwolde / The Netherlands; www.opi-plastics.nl). In addition to Oerlemans Plastics, Frisiapack and Oosterwolde Plastic, the group also includes the Dutch companies Perfon, Plasthill, Fardem Packaging and Flexpak.

Oerlemans' managing director Joan Hanegraaf notes that the acquisition is expanding his company's product range. It can now also supply recyclable sleeves, says Hanegraaf. He is assuming that more emphasis will be placed on recyclable product designs in plastic packaging over the next few years. Plastic packaging in sleeve form will not be contaminated with adhesives or paper labels and it will be possible to remove the sleeves for recycling.
