Work begins on PVC project in Brazil
Braskem (São Paulo / Brazil; www.braskem.com.br) has started construction of its 200,000 t/y PVC project in Marechal Deodoro, Alagoas / Brazil. The Brazilian resins producer said it expects the BRL 1 bn (EUR 435m) project to begin operations in the first half of 2012. Output from the new plant will help meet rising PVC demand from Brazil’s expanding construction sector.

The project will raise Braskem’s PVC capacity in Alagoas state to 460,000 t/y. The company also has a 250,000 t/y PVC plant in Camaçari, Bahia / Brazil.
