Poland´s PKN Orlen buys Czech state stake
Following a bidding “race” that took several years, Polish oil and petrochemicals group PKN Orlen (PL-09-411 Plock; www.orlen.pl), has received the nod to take over the Czech state´s 63% share in Unipetrol (CZ-182 21 Praha 8; www.unipetrol.cz) for the equivalent of EUR 414m. Three plastics producers, Chemopetrol (olefins; www.chemopetrol.cz), Spolana (PVC; www.spolana.cz) und Kaucuk (PS; www.kaucuk.cz) belong to Unipetrol. PKN, also a polymer producer, is currently building two world-scale plants for HDPE and PP at its Plock site, as part of a joint venture with Basell (NL-2132 MS Hoofddorp; www.basell.com).
