BOREALIS
New “BorSafe“ PE pressure grades / Increased resistance to disinfectants
Borealis (Vienna / Austria; www.borealisgroup.com) has added two new products to its “BorSafe” line of PE pressure grades for infrastructure and pipe systems that it claims exhibit higher resistance to chlorinated disinfectants. In trials conducted by one of the market leaders in water distribution, the Austria-based company said the pipes – based on innovation in its cross-linked PEX product family – lasted at least three times longer than conventional PE pipes.

Developed in part with feedback from pipe producers, installers, network managers and distributors, the pipes are manufactured using the proprietary “BorStar” bimodal technology, and Borealis said each grade meets or exceeds stringent international standards for drinking water applications. The company said it is responding to the need for increased resistance to aggressive chlorinated disinfectants used to protect the safety of drinking water.

The new BorSafe products – one medium density (MD) PE 80, more adapted to small diameters, and one PE 100 – are said to cover the full range of pipe diameters and feature excellent mechanical properties which enable installation in difficult laying conditions.
