POLYAMIDE 6.6
Ascend and BASF seek hikes in North America
As availability of PA 6.6 continues tight, major producers are seizing the chance to push prices upward. In North America, Ascend Performance Materials (Houston, Texas / USA; www.ascendmaterials.com) and BASF (Florham Park, New Jersey / USA; www.basf.us) have announced fresh increases with effect from 15 September 2018.
Ascend plans to charge 0.20/lb (EUR 380/t) more for its “Vydyne” base material and compounds. BASF intends to lay it on even thicker, calling for hikes of 0.38/lb (EUR 720/t) for its PA 6.6 grades sold under the trademarks “Ultramid” and “Nypel”. In some cases, prices could rise even more steeply, the Performance Materials division of BASF (Ludwigshafen / Germany; www.basf.com) said.
Another US-based player, Celanese (Dallas, Texas / USA; www.celanese.com) has announced substantial price increases for its PA 6 and PA 6.6 compounds – see Plasteurope.com of 06.09.2018. BASF said recently it sees the already tight PA 6.6 market as tightening further in 2019 – see Plasteurope.com of 27.08.2018.
