BRÜGGEMANN
Additives to stabilise polyolefin recyclates
At the K 2022 show in Düsseldorf, Germany (www.k-online.de), German supplier Brüggemann (Heilbronn; www.brueggemann.com) introduced three additives for the stabilisation of polyolefin recyclates said to provide good mechanical and processing properties even without adding first-use material.

Two of the materials target polypropylene recycling, according to the company, which noted that its Brüggolen TP-R2090 product has been optimised for post-industrial and post-consumer waste, while TP-R8895, with an increased acid scavenger content, is said to be especially suitable for recycling PP from battery casings.

Brüggolen TP-R2162 in turn was developed for recycling polyethylene and is suitable for LLDPE recyclates used in film extrusion. A so-called repair mechanism of the additive is said to increase initial mechanical stability and reduce defects in extruded film.

With the these R grades, which are available as additive blends in the form of compacted granulate, the additive manufacturer is supplementing its portfolio for materials for mechanically recycling polyamides. These include long-term thermal and process stabilisers, flow improvers, reactive chain modifiers and nucleating agents.

Through the acquisition of Italian competitor Auserpolimeri (see Plasteurope.com of 17.08.2022), which specialises in grafting polymers with maleic anhydride, Brüggemann offers additional grades for engineering plastics. “The impact modifiers, compatibilisers, coupling agents, and adhesion promoters complement our range of high-performance additives,” said Klaus Bergmann, head of plastics additives at Brüggemann.
