Europe is under increasing pressure to ban Russian oil imports despite its dependence on such shipments. While Russia makes hundreds of millions of euros a day from oil and gas exports, Europe covers about 40% of its natural gas demand with supplies from the country that invaded Ukraine. According to reports, Europe has imported EUR 18 bn worth of Russian gas since the war started.

Banning oil imports, however, seems like a slippery slope because some observers suggest it could raise the very real risk of Moscow retaliating by halting natural gas exports, a move that could plunge the entire region into recession, according to economists.

As various companies wait with bated breath for what’s to come – particularly since Poland and Bulgaria have been cut off from Russian gas – we at Plasteurope.com are conducting a flash survey on the possible repercussions of any further stoppages of natural gas shipments from Russia. How could such supply shutdowns impact operations at various European companies along the plastics industry supply chain, and how would they affect raw material availability, the delivery situation, polymer prices, and margins?

Those who participate in the Plasteurope.com survey will receive access to exclusive insights into how the European industry is dealing with the ongoing uncertainty, and how it is preparing for the worst-case scenario.
