Price hikes for polymer additives due to rising energy costs

Germany’s Wacker Chemie (Munich; www.wacker.com) has announced plans to globally increase prices by up to 20% for all Wacker Polymer products such as polymer dispersions, dispersible polymer powders and resins, effective 1 November 2021. Additionally, the company said its temporary surcharge for dispersible polymer powders in Europe will increase to EUR 590/t.

The company blamed the hikes on “continuously rising energy, raw material and logistics costs”.

Earlier this year, Wacker announced increases of up to 10% for its “Vinnapas”, “Vinnol” and “Vinnex” products, a move it said was temporary and rooted in rising costs for raw materials and logistics (see Plasteurope.com of 29.06.2021).

The German company’s energy surcharge follows similar announcements from Trinseo (see Plasteurope.com of 14.10.2021), Celanese (13.10.2021), LyondellBasell (08.10.2021), and Huntsman and Kem One (28.09.2021).
