Italian utility buys control of two recycling firms
The Italian multiutility Acea (Rome; www.gruppo.acea.it) says it has paid some EUR 12m for majority stakes in two compatriot plastics recyclers: 70% in Serplast (Stampalone; www.serplast-srl.it) and 60% of MEG (San Giovanni Ilarione; www.megverona.tv). Along with the delivery of water, electricity and natural gas, Acea is also active in waste management and already owns a number of plastics recyclers.

Serplast focuses on turning PVC, polycarbonate and styrene into flakes and granulates. MEG has specialised in polypropylene and polyethylene recycling. According to Acea, each company has a processing capacity of around 70,000 t/y.
