SCHOLLE IPN
Bag-in-box supplier strengthens pouch division / Acquisition of machine manufacturer Bossar
US packaging manufacturer Scholle IPN (Northlake, Illinois; www.scholleipn.com) said it is acquiring Spanish horizontal form, fill and seal (FFS) machine manufacturer Bossar (Barcelona; www.bossar.com). Financial details of the deal were not released. With this takeover, the US specialist for bag-in-box solutions is expanding its range in the flexible-packaging sector. Jeroen van der Meer, former Bossar CEO, has been appointed MD of Scholle IPN in the EMEA region.

“While both companies have been working together for some time, the deal increases the number of joint production sites to 18 worldwide,” says Ross Bushnell, president and CEO of Scholle IPN. The European facilities are located in Barcelona / Spain, Eisfeld / Germany and Voronezh / Russia along with Dutch sites in Kampen and Tilburg. Additionally, both companies, which currently employ a staff of around 1,900, are active in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, India, and the US. The Bossar brand of the Spanish company, headquartered in Barcelona, is to be retained. The companies declined to provide sales figures following Plasteurope.com queries.

In 2019, IPN acquired film producer Frischmann Kunststoffe (Eisfeld; www.scholleipn-germany.de) and integrated it into the group as Scholle IPN Germany. As a result, the Thuringia-based supplier invested in a new three and nine-layer barrier film line, a laminating line and a bag-in-box line.

Scholle IPN develops and manufactures flexible packaging products largely for bag-in-box and pouch formats. In addition to barrier films, these include closures as well as filling and sealing machines. The company supplies the food, beverage and non-food industries and processes PET, polypropylene and LLDPE, among others.
