Blend+ (Düren / Germany; www.blendplus.de) and a German subsidiary of Mitsui (Tokyo / Japan; www.mitsui.com) are working together on developing additive blends for recycled polyolefins. Blend+ will develop the process technology for the mixing of customised blends, such as in powder or pellet format, while Mitsui contributes its expertise in additive chemistry. The formulations are produced at the facilities of Blend+ in Düren, located around 40 km west of Cologne.
The new speciality additives for recyclate may contain up to five components to provide for the requirements of compounders and plastics recyclers. Blend+ sales manager Joachim Bayer says, “The development of customised formulations and blends is driven by the fact that the quality of sourced raw materials for the production of recyclates varies tremendously from customer to customer.”
