EconCore (Leuven / Belgium; www.econcore.com) is furthering development of rPET-based sheet extrusion – see Plasteurope.com of 22.07.2019. The company has announced that it installed a Meaf Machines’ (Yerseke / The Netherlands; www.meaf.nl) extruder for testing purposes.

Following successful tests, the process is to be scaled up for commercial production at Econcore’s subsidiary ThermHex Waben (Halle / Germany; www.thermhex.com). The Dutch company is targeting usage in the automotive industry as well as large-scale applications in the furniture industry.

Econcore says the PET recyclate of up to 95% content comes from used PET bottles. In a series of steps, the material is first extruded into sheets, then vacuum formed and made into a honeycomb core.
