Israeli plastics producer Carmel Olefins (Haifa; www.carmel-olefins.co.il) has presented a variety of new PP grades with enhanced aesthetic and mechanical features during a meeting at the headquarters of Italian distributor and compounder Arcoplex (Bergamo; www.arcoplexgroup.it).

The two grades "Capilene Y 50 LE" and "Capilene SW 70 LE" are suitable for automotive interior coatings and containers for food and toys. Capilene Y 50 LE is a homopolymer with high fluidity and low deformation while Capilene SW 70 LE is a copolymer with high fluidity and good rigidity.

Carmel Olefins has also added five grades to its "Capilene C" range. Recommended for manufacturing “squeezable” cans, the "Capilene CE50E" copolymer offers enhanced softness along with excellent gloss, transparency and resistance to migration.

The "CU78AM" grade of special PP combines the typical advantages of standard copolymers with those of random copolymers, featuring high strength, flexibility and lightness. This, said Carmel Olefins, makes the resin particularly suitable for suitcases.

Copolymer "CT71A" is recommended for making caps thanks to its improved “opening force.” This grade also offers higher impact resistance and processing ability compared to the standard random PP grades that are typically used in the caps & closures sector, according to the company.

"Capilene CW85AV" is a copolymer suitable for producing food containers as it has an excellent transparency even at thicknesses greater than 1mm. Designed for use in high-transparency articles, "QP85AV" is a high-fluency random copolymer that Carmel said can be used either in pure form or mixed up to 50% with PP copolymers.
