Slovenian home appliance manufacturer is divesting recycling subsidiary
Household appliances manufacturer Gorenje (Velenje / Slovenia; www.gorenje.com) is planning to sell its waste and recycling subsidiary Surovina (Maribor / Slovenia; www.surovina.si). By 16 March 2018, the company said it had received seven non-binding offers from strategic and financial investors. Gorenje has invited five of them to the second round, and binding offers are expected to be submitted by the end of May.

Surovina collects and recycles household and industrial waste. In addition to paper and metal, it collects plastic containers made of PET and HDPE, films, ABS from electrical appliance housing and PVC. The collected material is crushed, sorted, cleaned and sold as flakes. In addition to branches in Slovenia, Surovina also operates plants in Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The Slovenian government has made transitioning to a circular economy one of its priorities – see Plasteurope.com of 15.03.2018. Among EU member states, the country has a recycling rate that exceeds the EU average of 40.8%.
