PLASTIC FANTASTIC
Awkward silence
An aesthetic antithesis to ordinary headphones? The Helmfon (Photo: Hochu rayu)
Noise-cancelling headphones are trending. Everyone has seen them before; they are a premier tech accessory in business class cabins. Well-crafted, smooth aluminium headbands combined with ear pads made of leather are a joy for both eyes and ears. But now the "Helmfon" from a Ukranian design studio is trying to set new aesthetic standards. An oversized fibreglass helmet stuffed with PE foam is the next-generation solution to concentration problems in noisy environments. Equipped with "Bluetooth" speakers, microphone and a smartphone rest, users can take Skype calls or edit pictures in sophisticated silence. It can even be customised to look like a favourite superhero. Though Bruce Wayne would surely prefer noise-cancelling headphones when travelling in business class.
