MECAPLAST
Construction starting on plant in Morocco / Opening scheduled for next year
In the Moroccan city of Kenitra – some 40 km to the north of the capital Rabat – automotive supplier Mecaplast (Monaco; www.mecaplast.com) has made a start on constructing the plant it had announced (see Plasteurope.com of 16.09.2016). CEO Pierre Boulet, minister of the interior Abdelouafi Laftit and minister of economic affairs Moulay Hafid Elamy jointly staged the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony.

Once the plant is finished at the start of next year, 270 employees will be producing painted injection mouldings on a 67,500 m² site. Boulet is expecting the production facility to contribute EUR 15m to company sales.

In 2016, Mecaplast achieved sales of some EUR 1.2 bn. The clear increase is, however, primarily due to the purchase of competitor Key Plastics (Northville, Michigan / USA; www.keyplastics.com) which was concluded at the end of 2016 (see Plasteurope.com of 14.10.2016).
