A “pizza box” manufactured by Danish plastic tray and container manufacturer Faerch Plast (Holstebro; www.faerchplast.com) was awarded the “Snacking d'Or” trophy at the “Sandwich & snack show” held in March in Paris / France. The base tray is produced in C-PET for use in ovens to a maximum of 220°C or in microwaves, while the lid produced is in clear A-PET. The box can be stored in the freezer to -40°C.

The packaging concept solution offers advantages to producers and consumers, the company said – uncooked pizzas can be prepared and packed into the box for cooking later by the consumer and cooked pizzas can be taken from the oven in the supermarket or take-away pizza outlet and packed into the box for safe transit and consumer reheating without the lid.

Faerch Plast said that the packaging offers opportunities for pizzerias, which will be able to offer cooked and ready-to-cook pizzas by home delivery or for take-away. It also provides benefits to supermarkets selling ready-to-cook pizzas.
