The UK's Veka Recycling (Swanscombe; www.veka-recycling.co.uk) has added a new compounding line with an investment of about GBP 1m (EUR 1.2m) to supply the UK and other European markets with PVC-U pellet derived from post-industrial or post-consumer window frame material. The new line supports existing supplies of both pellet and micronised PVC-U coming from its German and French production sites. Veka Recycling is a subsidiary of German parent company Veka Umwelttechnik (Behringen), which has been in the business for more than 20 years.
The company's managing director, Tony Cattini, explained, "More businesses are recognising the tangible economic and environmental benefits of recycling PVC and have already had interest from a number of major players in the UK. With our new push into the extrusion market, we can now offer a closed-loop solution in our home market."
Simon Scholes, business administration manager for Veka Recycling, said the approach is in line with a "Pull Market" concept involving both the existing recycling network and convertors.
In addition to the new production line, the company has also brought a new collection hub on board in the town of Burnley, about 20 kms north of Manchester, where it already has a processing facility. The initiative is designed to reduce transport emissions and minimise the group's carbon footprint, allowing the entity to operate a 'back-fill' system when making deliveries throughout the region.
