BASF POLYURETHANES
Expansion of factory premises in Lemförde / Extending R&D facilities
BASF Polyurethanes (Lemförde / Germany; www.pu.basf.de) has expanded the factory premises at its headquarters by 11 ha to about 35 ha. The sub-group of German chemical giant BASF (Ludwigshafen; www.basf.com) also announced the expansion of its R&D facilities. The group said the measures were necessitated by a space shortage that developed as a result of the increase in the site’s workforce numbers. According to a company spokesman, the measures also strengthen the strategically important polyurethane specialities business as well as the site itself. BASF said the overall investment amounted to several million euros.

The revamped site will include a new R&D facility with a pilot plant that will develop new rigid polyurethane foam applications. The investment also calls for expanding the existing laboratory. Employees are expected to start working at the new facilities by the end of this year.
