HEXPOL
Acquisition of Horst Müller Kunststoffe / Expanding its TPE business
On 22 December 2011, Swedish polymers group Hexpol (Malmö; www.hexpol.com) announced that it had reached an agreement with Rowa (Pinneberg / Germany; www.rowa-gmbh.de) to acquire the latter’s Horst Müller Kunststoffe (Lichtenfels / Germany; www.mueller-kunststoffe.com) thermoplastic elastomer compounds (TPE) business. The EUR 39m deal is expected to be completed in January 2012 following regulatory approval.
Commenting on the purchase, Hexpol CEO Georg Brunstam said it would broaden his group’s compounding product range, adding that Müller Kunststoffe’s two production units in Lichtenfels would complement the group’s existing TPE compounding operations in the UK and Sweden, which Hexpol acquired from the Vita Group (Luxembourg; www.thevitagroup.com) in 2010 – see Plasteurope.com of 23.03.2010. Aside from its European production sites, Hexpol’s TPE business unit, now operating as Elasto (Åmål / Sweden; www.elastotpe.com), is in the midst of constructing a new TPE plant in China, due for start-up in H2 2012 (see Plasteurope.com of 22.07.2011).
