VINK
Acquisition by Edmundson Distribution
Edmundson Distribution (Knutsford, Cheshire / UK) is to acquire plastics distributor Vink (Baarn / The Netherlands; www.vink.com) from parent company Kendrion (Zeist / The Netherlands; www.kendrion.com). Edmundson distributes semi-finished plastics in the UK under the name Amari Plastics (Weybridge, Surrey / UK; www.amariplastics.com). Kendrion has also sold its Servico subsidiary to Belgian electrical products distributor Claessen. The total value of the transactions, which are subject to approval from shareholders and European competition authorities, is EUR 94m. Kendrion will book a profit of around EUR 9m after reduction of costs, write-down of goodwill and deferred tax assets.
Kendrion CEO Piet Veenema said, “This divestment is fully in line with the strategy of ‘focused acceleration’ pursued by Kendrion to introduce greater focus to its activities.” He added that the strategy is aimed at expanding the company into an international, high-technology business in electromagnetic components and systems in specific industries.
In the first six months of 2008, Kendrion’s distribution services division – which comprises Vink and Servico and employs around 1,100 people – reported operating profit of EUR 8.10m on sales of EUR 182m. The Vink group has locations in 11 European countries.
Vink sold its loss-making plastic distribution business in the UK and Ireland to paper merchant Robert Horne Group (Northampton / UK; www.roberthorne.co.uk) in May 2008 – see Plasteurope.com of 28.05.2008.
