US compounding specialist Teknor Apex (Pawtucket, Rhode Island; www.teknorapex.com) has achieved Recycled Content Certification by European audit scheme RecyClass (Brussels; www.recyclass.eu) for its Sarlink Rx 4100B series of TPVs and its Monprene R6 CP-10100 series of TPEs, both of which contain recycled content.

The certification audits were conducted by the agency Kiwa (Rijswijk, Netherlands; www.kiwa.com) at Teknor Apex’s sites in Genk, Belgium, and Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany, the company said.

According to the firm, the Monprene R6 CP-10100 series contains 60% post-consumer recycled content and enables a reduction in product carbon footprint by up to 36% compared with a similar, fossil-based TPE. The Sarlink Rx 4100B series of thermoplastic vulcanizate elastomers contains 30% PCR.

Certification verifies the percentage of recycled plastic content in the products, ensures traceability and compliance with ISO 22095 and EN 15343 standards, and confirms that the recycled materials come from legitimate and certified sources, the company said.

Certified materials are widely adopted in packaging applications and are also being leveraged by consumer goods brands, the compounding specialist added. Its materials are also well suited for applications in automotive, appliances and white goods, and building and construction. Teknor Apex said it aims to reach cost parity with conventional materials as production volumes increase and supply chains become more established.
