SUMITOMO DEMAG
Hungarian subsidiary established / Further investments planned / New head of sales appointed for machinery division
Japanese-German plastics machinery manufacturer Sumitomo (SHI) Demag (Schwaig / Germany; www.sumitomo-shi-demag.eu) has set up a new subsidiary in Hungary to meet rising demand for injection moulding machines. Sumitomo (SHI) Demag Plastics Machinery Hungária, located in Törökbálint, opened on 5 October.

“Hungary has emerged as the market with the highest potential for growth in Europe,” said Gerd Liebig, chief strategy officer at Sumitomo (SHI) Demag. While he declined to give detailed figures, he did say that “in addition to extensive investments, which are planned for the next few years, our customers will also need technological support in order to stay ahead in the competition.”

The subsidiary will be headed by Andras Borszeki, who Sumitomo (SHI) Demag said is an expert in the manufacturing of injection moulding machinery with a deep knowledge of the Hungarian market. He is joined by sales experts Csaba Jozan and Joszef Selley, both of whom have been working for Hungarian injection moulders for many years. The total workforce in Törökbálint will come to 10.

The company said it can now intensify its efforts to provide reliable and localised sales, service and maintenance in the country. In addition, it will offer training programmes for moulders to help them realise the full potential and efficiency of Sumitomo (SHI) Demag’s equipment.

At the same time, the machinery producer said it will end its long-term sales collaboration with Büchler Kunststoffmaschinenhandel (Königstetten / Austria; www.buechler.at) – which covered Austria and Hungary – following a transitional poeriod. The dissolution was a mutual decision, Liebig told Plasteurope.com.

Meanwhile, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag Plastics Machinery has appointed Andreas Holzer as its new head of after-sales service. The appointment was effective from 1 October. Holzer has 30 years of experience in machine engineering and worked for an Austrian competitor in his previous role.

The company is continuing to digitalise its after-sales workflows and said Holzer will advance this process. “We will focus on fast and comprehensive troubleshooting, but also on enhancing our product portfolio for service and retrofit products,” Holzer said.
