STRATASYS
Rapid prototyping with polycarbonate, ABS and PPS / New “Titan” line of machines
The new line of “FDM Titan” units from the US company Stratasys Inc. (Eden Prairie, Minneapolis; www.stratasys.com) is said to enable prototypes to be produced from polycarbonate, ABS and polyphenyl sulphone. The process works by the patented fused deposition modelling process (FDM). With this new line, says Stratasys, very high-quality functional models can be produced in one operation. For demonstration purposes, Stratasys has produced a golf ball on the machine which, according to the tests, has the same strength data as original golf balls.

The company says the “FDM Titan” machine can be used to produce parts up to a size of 355 x 406 x 406 mm. Up to a size of 127 mm, an accuracy of ± 0.127 mm is given, and with larger sizes, the tolerance may be 0.0015 mm per mm. The individual thickness of the fused layers is 0.25 mm. Stratasys has distribution partners in most European countries (see Stratasys´ homepage).
