Italians pull out of nylon joint venture / Rhodia takes world lead in technical fibres
Rhone Poulenc group company Rhodia has advanced to world's largest manufacturer of technical fibres and number two in polyamide following the acquisition on 1 January of the 50% share in Novalis and Nyltech held by Fiat subsidiary Snia Bpd. Snia said the activities, which were not achieving sufficient returns, were no longer core businesses. Novalis was founded in 1993 to produce PA carpet fibres. Nyltech was established in 1994 with Snia subsidiary Caffaro SpA (I-20031 Cesano Maderno, MI) as jv partner. Headquartered at Lyon, France, it produces PA and POM at Ceriano Laghetto, near Milan. The company had 1996 sales of ITL 425.6 bn. Caffaro will continue production of PA packaging films at the Italian site.
