Acquisition of Turkish sealants specialist Akkim / Stronger positioning in construction sector targeted

The Swiss construction chemicals group Sika (Baar; www.sika.com) announced it has acquired Turkish adhesives and sealants manufacturer Akkim Kimya (Istanbul; www.akkim.com.tr). The companies did not disclose the purchase price. The transaction is expected to be completed by the third quarter of this year.

With the acquisition, Sika aims to strengthen its position in adhesives and sealants, particularly for the construction sector in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa.
Founded in 1977 in Yalova, Akkim has until now been part of the Turkish diversified conglomerate Akkök. The company operates five sites, including two major plants in Turkey and Romania. Another plant is currently under construction, according to company statements.
Akkim manufactures a broad range of chemical products, including silicone polymers, plastics additives, and construction chemicals. No details were provided regarding production capacities. With more than 1,000 employees, the company generated revenue of around EUR 240 mn last year.

The Swiss construction chemicals giant Sika, meanwhile, reported sales of CHF 11.76 bn in 2024; more recent figures are not yet available. It employs nearly 35,000 people across 201 countries.
In addition to sealing membranes, Sika produces joint tapes based on TPO and PVC, polyurethane foam systems and, in Eastern Europe, EPS insulation boards. It also manufactures construction chemical products such as mortar, synthetic resin floor coverings, concrete additives, and release agents.
