SALOMON
Acquisition of Mavic: Bicycle equipment
Salomon (F-74000 Annecy), world-scale producer of winter sports goods, has acquired the bicycle equipment manufacturer Mavic. The two companies are large users of technical plastics and polyurethanes, and Mavic has used fusible core moulding techniques to produce an electronic gear-change. The company had a turnover of FFr 153m in 1993 and supplied the Tour de France and major champions. For its part, Salomon, originally in ski boots and fixtures, diversified two years ago into production of skis and walking shoes and also acquired the US golf specialist, Taylor Made. According to Salomon, Mavic was like "a little Salomon": 20 years old, in the cycle sector, a company full of innovation, with the competitive spirit. Salomon paid FFr 100m for Mavic.
