German additive producer launches biobased liquid colour range

Rowasol (Pinneberg, Germany; www.rowasol.de) has launched a range of liquid colours for plastics partly incorporating biobased raw materials. The new GreenLine products, the company reports, combine a carrier system containing over 75% renewable raw materials with selected plant-derived colourants.

The colourants include products derived from indigo, curcumin, and radish extracts, as well as a black based on plant-derived carbon and a white based on mineral raw materials. According to Rowasol, the natural colourants are incorporated into a naturally occurring mineral to improve their thermal stability for plastics processing.

The company said the products can be used at dosage levels of 0.5%–2.0%, with the resulting colour depending on the polymer matrix. Development of the range is continuing, with Rowasol working to add further natural colour sources and increase the biobased content of the carrier system.
