RHONE POULENC
Rhodia new name for chemicals & fibres activities / Planned sale of TiO2 business
As part of a programme to improve the performance of its chemicals/fibres business Rhone Poulenc (25 Quai Paul Doumer, F-92408 Courbevoie Cedex) is to create a new company for these sectors to be called Rhodia. The name is already familiar in many areas being both the trademark of numerous products and the name of a number of companies operating in this sector. Rhodia will be organised into five worldwide divisions, which will include its polyamide activities, and will be operational by 1st January 1998.

In a separate announcement, Rhone Poulenc revealed it is planning to sell its French titanium dioxide production and marketing activities to Millennium Chemicals Inc (99 Wood Avenue South, Iselin, NJ 08830 / USA). The deal would include two sites at Thann (Alsace) and Le Havre with a total production capacity of 138,000 t/y and a 1996 turnover of FRF 1.1bn. Millennium is the largest producer of TiO2 in the USA and the third largest in the world with an annual production close to 475,000 t/y.
