Spanish company wins “big data” award for polyolefins process automation project / Part of digitalisation programme
Energy and chemicals company Repsol (Madrid / Spain; has won an award for a polyolefins process automation project that it has piloted at its Puertollano complex in Spain. The company won the “Best big data business initiative award in Spain 2018” category in the “Data science awards”, sponsored by Telefónica and Google Cloud. The “Analytics polyolefins” project aims to ensure the quality of the polyolefins it delivers to customers by anticipating the product quality that is being manufactured 15 minutes in advance.

The project offers the personnel controlling the process a predictive and automatic system focused on ensuring a constant product quality, Repsol said. The company plans to extend the project, which is part of its digitalisation programme, to the rest of its industrial plants. It also has created a digitalisation and IT area that will be responsible for implementing digitalisation across its business in the coming years.

Also in 2018, Repsol won an award from the Polymers for Europe Alliance ( for the quality of PP supplied to processors – see of 29.05.2018.
