Food grade thermoplastics for stock-shape production
Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products (Quadrant EPP, Zurich / Switzerland; www.quadrant.ch) has introduced a family of engineering thermoplastics for the manufacture of machined parts used in equipment to produce, process or package foodstuffs, convenience goods and beverages. The company claims that it has become the first thermoplastics stock-shape producer to conform with all aspects of regulation EC 1935 / 2004 following the introduction of the new materials. The new range is based on a number of existing materials produced by the company.
The food grade family addresses the latest amendments to the EU-wide regulation relating to food contact compliancy of materials including plastics, Quadrant said. This requires a declaration of compliancy not only in terms of raw material composition, but also concerning the stipulation that the various materials should present measured migration limits depending on the foodstuff they will come into contact with, as well as the duration of contact and the temperature under which it will be used.
