After having divested its Kobusch-Sengewald flexible film business earlier this year (see Plasteurope.com of 10.01.2012), Belgian protective packaging producer Pregis (Wellen; www.pregis.com) is now expanding in its core competence field. On 13 August the group announced that it had acquired US protective packaging producer Inter-Pac (Tupelo, Mississippi; www.inter-pac.com) for an undisclosed amount. Pregis said the purchase would make it “the largest producer of polyethylene sheet foam in the United States.”

The Belgian group said it would continue to operate Inter-Pac’s almost 17,000 m² production facility in Tupelo and would take over the group’s 25 employees as well. Pregis plans to use the facility to serve its customers on the United States’ East Coast.
