POLYONE
Integration is proceeding well / Transcolor in Spain improves new group´s European focus
PolyOne (Cleveland, Ohio / USA; www.polyone.com), the new “polymer service company” formed through the merger of Geon and M.A.Hanna, put its best foot forward at “K 2001”. CEO Thomas A. Waltermire pointed to good progress in the integration of the two companies into the world´s largest compounder with annual sales of more than USD 3 bn.
The new group is divided into six business platforms. European activities in thermoplastics compounding are handled by PolyOne Th. Bergmann GmbH (D-76571 Gaggenau). Colours and additives are part of PolyOne Belgium (B-5330 Assesse) and special formulations belong to PolyOne Formulators U.K. (Cheshire). In future, the plastics specialist plans to concentrate more intensively on application fields such as cables, automotive or packaging.
Along with restructurisation in particular in Anglo-American regions, PolyOne will establish a base in Spain through the acquisition of Transcolor (Carretera de Azoz, E-31194 Oricain) in the second half of next year. With annual sales of around USD 30m and 20,000 t/y of production capacity, Transcolor is Spain´s market leader for pigment concentrates and is specialised in black and white masterbatches, Bernd Baert, European vice president of PolyOne, told PIE.
For Waltermire, the Spanish acquisition is a sign that the new group is willing to become active outside the US. He said PolyOne plans to seize all financially feasible chances to expand its portfolio geographically and structurally. However, at the same time, the CEO said the company also will exploit all opportunities to pursue organic growth.
