Italian compounder acquires majority stake in German distributor Weber Kunststoffe
In May, northern Italian compounder Poliblend (Mozzate; www.poliblend.it) acquired 80% of the shares in distributor Weber Kunststoffe (Heilbronn / Germany; www.weberkunststoffe.de) from founder Heiner Kluczka-Koss. 20% of the engineering plastics distributor will be owned by Arianna La Monica, who has been managing the company since September 2015. This was confirmed to Plasteurope.com by Weber's managing director. The three-person sales team will continue to distribute the current product portfolio, including materials from other manufacturers in the long term, which will also include thermoplasts and masterbatches, La Monica said.
With this transaction, Poliblend wants to expand in the German market and win customers in the automotive sector. The company already has a 15-year business relationship with Weber. The company name will be changed to Poliblend Deutschland, says Giancarlo D'Ottavio, general manager of the D'Ottavio Group, which Poliblend belongs to.
The D'Ottavio Group consists of seven companies: Poliblend, Esseti Plast, Alfa Polymers, Celloplast, Mazzergrip and Poliblend Asociados EspaƱa as well as the new acquisition Poliblend Deutschland (still Weber Kunststoffe). Production capacity totals around 25,000 t/y of PA, PBT and POM compounds, 2,000 t/y of TPE and 1,000 t/y of masterbatches and additives. The group employs more than 130 workers, most of which are in Italy. Last year, group sales were EUR 90m, of which Poliblend generated EUR 49m.
