BASF meets CFC-free PS target early
A year ahead of schedule, the BASF group (D-67056 Ludwigshafen) has met its target of producing 80% of its "Styrodur" extruded PS rigid foam insulation sheets for the German market with CO2-driven propellants. In February 1996, the group agreed to phase out CFC- and HCFC-driven propellants by June 1998. BASF said it spent DEM 20m on developing alternatives to CFC blowing agents and DEM 10m more on converting its four European production sites.
