Eastman: New high-barrier polymers
Eastman Chemical Company (Europe: Tobias Asserlan 5, NL-2517 KC Den Haag) has announced the launch of a new class of ultra-high barrier plastics based on polyamide for use in multi-layer containers. The first areas of application for the “Imperm” nano-composite polymers include multi-layer PET bottles, e.g. for beer, juice and low-carbon dioxide soft drinks. According to Eastman, the barrier properties of the new nano-composite polymers are 3-6 times higher than those of traditional polyamide barrier layers.
