Solvay to build plant for PU foaming agents
Solvay Fluor und Derivate GmbH (D-30173 Hannover; www.solvay.com), German offshoot of the Belgian chemical group, plans to build a 15,000 t/y plant to produce the hydrofluorocarbon “Solkane 365mfc” at Tavaux, France. Start-up is scheduled for the end of 2002. The product is an insulating and foaming agent for polyurethanes. The use of conventional HCFCs is due to be banned in the EU, the US and Japan from 2003 due to their ozone-depleting properties. According to Solvay, Solkane 365mfc has no damaging effect on the ozone layer.
