BASF and Shell start up plant in Singapore
BASF (D-67056 Ludwigshafen; www.basf.com) and Shell Chemicals (www.shellchemicals.com) have started up a EUR 500m world-scale plant for propylene oxide and styrene monomer at Seraya on Singapore´s Jurong island. Output of the facility with capacity for 250,000 t/y of propylene oxide and 550,000 t/y of styrene monomer will be used mainly in BASF´s Asian styrenics and polyurethanes businesses. The plant, billed as “the largest, fully integrated PO and polyols manufacturing site in Asia Pacific,” is now ready “at the right moment” to participate in “a rebound of the global polyurethane markets,” BASF said.
