Huntsman plans world´s largest LDPE plant
The Huntsman group (Salt Lake City / USA; www.huntsman.com) is reportedly planning the world´s largest low density polyethylene (ldPE) plant at Wilton in the UK. CEO Peter Huntsman told a British chemicals journal that the new 375,000-400,000 t/y commodity grade plant, which will cost EUR 200-220m, will save money on freight costs, as shipping ethylene to overseas customers costs more than shipping PE. A decision on the production process is expected for the end of April, with start-up slated for Q1 2006. Basell, Equistar, ExxonMobil, Polimeri Europa and Sabtec are the leading providers of LDPE technology.
