Rexam sells medical flexibles to Amcor
British packaging group Rexam plc (GB-London SW IP 3XR; www.rexam.co.uk) will sell its healthcare flexibles sector for GBP 135m to Amcor Ltd (AUS-Melbourne; www.amcor.com). The division employs 1,000 people at 10 factories worldwide. In 2002 it had an operating profit of GBP 11m on sales of GBP 163m. Rexam will remain strongly committed to the healthcare and pharmceutical segments as shows the recent acquisition of Risdon Pharma – see PIE 13, 2003. Healtcare flexibles, however, was the group´s only business in flexible packaging and “has found a more appropriate home in a group specifically focused on the flexible packaging industry,” says chief executive Rolf Börjesson.
