Inergy Automotive Systems shifts focus to CRP high-pressure cylinders at the expense of fuel tanks / New line planned in Belgium
French automotive supplier Plastic Omnium (Levallois; www.plasticomnium.com) is setting a new course for its propulsion division. Following the inaugurations of the “Deltatech” and “Omegatech” development centres in Brussels / Belgium and Wuhan, Hubei / China – both of which are geared towards high-pressure gas cylinders made of carbon fibre-reinforced plastics (CRPs) for hydrogen storage – the company plans to install series production of filament-wound class 4 tanks at its plant in Herentals / Belgium in 2020. Plastic Omnium’s subsidiary Inergy Automotive Systems (Paris / France) currently produces conventional fuel tanks at the site.

The French company recently secured two orders “of significant size” of CRP high-pressure hydrogen tanks for pressures up to 350 bar. According to Plastic Omnium, the client is a German bus manufacturer. The automotive supplier has also achieved R 134 certification for vehicle tanks up to 700 bar.
