Come on, Barbie, let’s go… charge a phone? UK-based sustainable tech product designer Gomi (Brighton) has announced a collaboration with Mattel’s iconic fashion doll line to develop a limited-edition series of electronics accessories made from recycled Barbies.

Each unit is one of a kind and handmade onsite in Brighton, pairing the recovered plastics with other materials such as durable aluminium. Typically, Barbies are made from a mixture of polymers, commonly ABS, PVC, and polypropylene, depending on the model.

Included in the Childhood Memories Collection are power banks, tracker tags, wireless chargers, and loudspeakers, all featuring a “modular, reparable design”.

The collection’s name is appropriate as well, because who among us as imaginative, curious children didn’t melt down our siblings’ action figures or Barbies?
