PLASTIC FANTASTIC
That's a wrap on luggage wrapping
— By Plasteurope.com staff —

Better safe than sorry! So thought many an air traveller as they had their suitcases shrink-wrapped before departure, putting their minds at ease. Layer upon layer of protective polyethylene, securing against dirt, scratches, and prying fingers. But this sense of security could soon be unravelled.

Back to basics: travellers soon won’t be able to wrap their bags in plastic (Photo: Pexels/Magda Ehlers)

Some of the first airports, including in Germany, are already informing travellers that the plastic luggage wrapping no longer complies with EU PPWR guidelines. Too much waste, too little sense, too much sticky residue in places with few bins or patience. Going forward, our suitcases will be allowed to breathe again, collect scratches, burst open, and tell tales of adventures in foreign lands. We just feel sorry for the stretch film suppliers: time to pack in!
