PLASTIC FANTASTIC
What's in a watch? For Apple's SE 3, plastics, perhaps
By Andru Shively

Market rumours this month have been swirling around the next generation of SE smartwatches from US tech giant Apple. As Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman first hinted at in his Power On newsletter in July, the yet-to-be-released Apple Watch SE 3 model is likely to drop its traditional aluminium body for one made of rigid plastic.

Reasons behind the change reside in the realm of speculation for now, among them reducing manufacturing costs, increasing scratch resistance, or lowering the retail price. There is also talk that using a plastic material would allow for a wider variety of colour options that might have greater appeal to the target demographic of the SE series: children.

Whether Apple intends on making any kind of official announcement on the matter, however, remains something to watch out for.
