PLASTIC FANTASTIC
…And it was all yellow.
It’s been declared the colour of the pandemic. Or so say some industry experts, who define the colour of the year based on social trends that consciously and subconsciously influence consumer behaviour in the months to follow. Colours, as is common knowledge, can express our subconscious feelings, for instance, our need to be in nature, and this year, our need for human warmth.

In keeping with the same, the colours and shades of this year, and the next, are yellow (primarily), and others with a “high yellow content” such as green, red, orange, and even some shades of blue. Researchers from a renowned pigment manufacturer have also described the effect these colours have on us: yellow for human warmth, in contrast to the social isolation that has been forced upon us; green for the need to get back to nature and avoid the artificial – including screens and all things digital; blue for the big, wide sky outside; and reds and oranges for the rays of the sun. Interestingly, some Asian cultures also associate merriment and celebration with hues of yellow!

With hope having just arisen in people’s hearts the world over, here’s to many more months of yellow!
