PLASTIC FANTASTIC
Ludicrous versus superfast
Combustion engine against electric drivetrain, it was only a matter of time until someone would put this to test. And indeed, the best of each automotive branch, a Lamborghini "Aventador SuperVeloce" with 750 hp and 690 Nm torque had to stand up against a Tesla "Model X" with 773 hp and 660 Nm torque on a quarter-mile track in Palm Beach, Florida. It came as a surprise to most that the Tesla, when put in “ludicrous-mode”, beat the Italian supercar by five hundredths of a second. Most blamed the loss on the driver’s nerves, who hit the pedal just a split-second too late.

It seems unnecessary to mention that the Lamborghini’s launch control is one of the best in the world. Ultimately, it all comes back to a linguistic tweak. “Superveloce” means “superfast” in Italian – just not ludicrously fast. Maybe this is why Tesla doesn't feel the need to show up at the world's largest auto show, "IAA 2017", in Frankfurt.
